    Island Hopping to Male

    28th August 2009 / No Comments

We left Nilandhoo in the afternoon a couple of days back.  The timing of high tide and the shallow depths we were anchored in dictated when we moved – needing…

    Excitement In The Night

    22nd August 2009 / No Comments

One of the aspects of this type of cruising that I really enjoy is the planning… the preparation… the deciding where to go and when.  It’s all fine and dandy…

    Jewellery Island

    16th August 2009 / No Comments

We left Kolumafushi and the Huvadhoo atoll on Friday and sailed (well, motored) overnight to arrive in Laamu atoll yesterday mid-morning.  Our experience in Huvadhoo had been largely positive and…

    Holy Smoked Tuna!

    8th August 2009 / No Comments

The planned early departure from Gadhdhoo Harbour nearly went belly up when we awoke to find what we thought should be mid-tide was actually low tide.  One of the downsides…

    Too Deep or Too Shallow!

    8th August 2009 / No Comments

Lisa and Dave had recommended a couple of anchorages within the southern Huvadhoo Atoll but found the two we tried were too shallow where the coral reef was or too…

We left Chagos yesterday at midday, raising the anchor and clearing out of the Soloman lagoon just as a rain shower passed over.  I much prefer to be able to…

    Disconnecting from Civilisation

    Chagos History & True Confessions

About us

We are Bryan & Helen.

A Kiwi and a Brit who met in Dubai. We gave up corporate life and set sail to explore South East Asia in 2019.

The plan was to live aboard our 37ft Bavaria Sailing Yacht called Aroha (ah-roh-huh), meaning “love, compassion and empathy” in Māori.

Life hasn’t all been plain sailing – with the pandemic resulting in us leaving the sea for New Zealand and van life during 2021. After a 2 year break we have now sailed to Thailand.

We share our adventures of sailing, travelling and trying to live as sustainably as possible.
